Rand Paul wants to make the internet free to be completely controlled by huge corporations

Paul is trying to establish himself as some sort of standards bearer for “internet freedom”, in much the same way his father did with calls to end the Federal Reserve.

As you might expect from someone named after Ayn Rand, it’s all bullshit. Paul’s ideas for internet freedom mean turning it over to corporations and letting the so-called free market guide future innovation.

If you’re excited about already powerful and established markets – from the entertainment industry to cable companies – being able to continue to exert their control over the internet, by all means, sign on to Paul’s idea of “liberty”. If you’re actually interested in real freedom, insist on things like Net Neutrality and holding corporations accountable for how they behave, online or otherwise.
