MSNBC is now saying that the account was never in their control in the first place. It was previously sending out MSNBC headlines, but then today went off the deep end, obviously. So I guess this is a lesson in controlling your online brand.

MG Siegler, over at the paragon of journalistic integrity, TechCrunch, on a rogue msnbc twitter account that was never hacked and never under official control of either the cable or online network. It was just some idiot who plugged an RSS feed into a fake twitter account.
Yeah, dude, I guess it is a lesson in “controlling your online brand” or some other bullshit that douchebags say. I guess msnbc should hire someone to worry about any and every derivation of their name that shows up on every social network ever. Because that seems like a much better use of time than actually, you know, working.
Excuse me, I need to go register @TechCrunchHeadlines.
p.s. TechCrunch, update your useless CrunchBase entry on msnbc when you find a minute between sucking up to Google and Zuckerberg and not releasing a CrunchPad. It might involve some actual reporting, but I bet you’ve got it in you.
